Japanese manga masterpieces are beloved across borders and across eras binding together art, history, and literature
Koshi Manga Museum has a collection of approx. 40,000 volumes of manga of which 15,000 have been chosen for display from each decade, 1960s to the present.
We boast several exhibition shelves where visitors can see valuable items related to the origins of modern manga, and also special shelves where they can learn the history and culture of Koshi and Kumamoto through manga.
A veritable ocean of manga to wade through at Koshi Manga Museum as adults find those stories that inspired them as children and kids can discover a plethora of new and exciting graphic works.

Great for relaxing or enjoying a drink while reading manga. A vending machine sells drinks so visitors can enjoy a cafe-like atmosphere.

Relax and read manga in our cubes made of wood from Kumamoto.
From the ticket machine, buy a 1-day admission ticket and present it at the reception desk.
Also, if you have an annual passport, please present it at reception.

In each decade section, individual manga are then arranged by author in typical Japanese syllabary order.

Cube Shelves
These are special shelves arranged by theme that display important authors and those works from which visitors can learn about the history and culture of Koshi or Kumamoto.
Exhibition Spaces
Valuable manga, original art, and related items from the dawn of modern manga including signatures from manga creators are displayed here. Visitors can always find new and exciting exhibitions on display.
Magazine Shelve
Reaching to the ceiling on the upper half of the outer shelves, are our displays of manga magazine masterpieces!
Room for exhibitions and events related to manga. Held here are the manga lecture series “Koshi Manga Gijuku” as well as workshops for families to have fun while learning about manga.

The Koshi Manga Museum boasts a collection of approx. 25,000 manga items in storage. Valuable pre/post-war items and other manga waiting for space to open on our shelves or for special events or exhibitions are stored here.
In collaboration with the national government and other manga museums, we contribute to the preservation of precious Japanese manga that was previously unprotected due to manga being considered “read-and-throwaway” items.
